There are many ways to support the exciting NASA mission. Some people work directly for NASA as civil service employees assigned to NASA facilities; some work for our contractors at hundreds of locations throughout the country; some perform research at major universities; and some participate in our numerous educational outreach activities. If you are interested in working as a civil service employee, you should know that NASA’s Staffing and Recruitment System, NASA STARS, is now linked with the Office of Personnel Management’s USAJOBS system to provide you with a seamless application process. As of October 1, 2005, NASA only accepts the USAJOBS resume as the basic electronic application document. (Your USAJOBS resume can also be used to apply for jobs at many other Federal agencies.) Once we receive your resume and supplemental information, NASA STARS uses Resumix software to assist in electronically rating and ranking your resume. Our process is easy to use, and yields timely results.
We encourage you to use our electronic process, but you may also submit your hard copy resume to our Resume Operations Center (ROC); the address is in our vacancy announcements. Applications submitted manually must contain the same information required in our electronic process (e.g. address). You must provide the required information in order to receive consideration for NASA vacancies. Mailed resumes must be received by close of business (5:00 p.m. Eastern time) on the closing date of the vacancy announcement.

- STEP 2: Create a resume on the USAJOBS Resume Builder.
Please note that although there are no length limitations on the USAJOBS resume, NASA limits its submission to approximately six typed pages, or roughly 22,000 characters. This limitation applies to both electronic and hard copy resumes. We will not accept resumes that exceed our length requirements.
You must submit a resume for positions filled under NASA STARS; other application forms, such as an OF-612 or an SF-171 will not be accepted. Although an electronically submitted resume is preferred, you may mail your resume to our Resume Operations Center. Applicants will no longer submit KSAs or verification information at the time of application; however, if selected, the applicant must provide any relevant verification information such as transcripts or veterans' preference validation.

- STEP 3: Find the announcement to which you wish to apply, and select the ‘Apply On-Line’ button.
After you submit your resume, you will be asked to respond to a short series of questions. You must complete all of the questions and submit your entire application package to receive consideration.
If you are applying for an SES position, you will be asked to submit narrative statements on your Executive Core Qualifications and your Technical Qualifications (as described in the vacancy announcement). We STRONGLY recommend that you complete those materials off-line before starting the application process.
